Baptisms

At St. Mark’s Church, we extend a heartfelt welcome to your entire family to join us in celebrating this beautiful occasion together.

Baptism signifies the commencement of a lifelong journey with God—a journey rooted in our response to His boundless love. This significant first step is a cause for great joy, not only for the candidates themselves but also for parents, godparents, and sponsors, as we come together to celebrate what God has graciously bestowed upon us through Christ.

Typically, our tradition involves conducting baptisms as part of our regular Sunday service. However, we are flexible and open to arranging a more intimate ceremony, which would ideally take place on a Sunday following our morning service. We look forward to discussing and accommodating your preferences as we commemorate this special occasion with you.

Godparents

Godparents are typically selected from among your close circle of friends and family. It’s important to choose individuals of good character, people you trust, and those who are committed to being a consistent presence in the child’s life as they grow into adulthood.

The primary requirement for a godparent is that they have received the sacrament of christening or baptism themselves.

What happens during the service

The service follows a structured format, with each part holding special significance. The Priest will begin by extending a warm welcome to the congregation and explaining the importance of the service. Following this, parents, godparents, and the wider congregations will make their promises to provide ongoing support for the child.

The parents and godparents will then be invited to bring the child forward, and the Priest will make the sign of the cross, symbolising the moment when Christ claims the child. The water is then blessed, and the child is baptised.

How much does it all cost

The great news is that the service is completely free.
